Week7: 7 Habits

This week I have learned about the 7 habits of highly effective people and out of the 7 the fifth habit is one that has the most meaning to me. “First seek to understand, then to be understood.”

I think this one thing that I would like to master as a person. I have learned previously that by listening to others then only are we able to know their concerns and how to come to their aids. We cannot be empathetic towards other when we have not sort to hear them out or now what they are going through. I think of this habit also as being slow to judging others until we know the entire story.

Sadly, most time we fall short to this habit and are quick to conclude on matter with a half knowledge and that is not a good habit. People will only understand us when we have understood them. So, in other to be understood we must be willing to understand others. We can gain the trust of those when we hear them out and they knowing that we care to know their story and we are concerned about their well being and growth. It makes them feel included and belonged.

This habit can help me fill my life with passion and purpose because it will make the thing that I seek to do easier when I have been able to master them. I will see the world in a different way than I have ever seen it and winning alone would not be my top most priority because I will have the understanding that I need others to win, and others nee me to win too. I will be able to have the trust of others and also know that I have a responsibility to contribute in the winning of others and not just me. I will be willing to avail myself to be useful to the society.
